There was a small boat aground at the beach so Bob got out the
binoculars to see what was going on. There were 2 people
standing next to it looking it over when Bob said, "They're naked!"
So I grabbed the binos and gandered a peek. Of course,
after scoping out the situation I simply stated,
"No they're not, they're wearing hats!"
Those crazy French Canadians!
Fun in the sun!
We are at Chat N Chills and Bob just loves this dog!
Comfy!
Chat N Chills almost closed down because boaters weren't coming
in for a while....now we're back!
Isn't this a great shot!
Chattin' N Chillin'
There goes Bob with the camera again!
Bob said he likes the conch salad
Derek this one is for you!
Bob saw this and says "What the heck is this?! I got to get a
picture of this and show it to Derek!"
The dinghy's not going to go anywhere right?
Tim brought us over a coconut! Thanks Tim & Michelle!
Several shots of tonight's sun setting....
Check out the orange eyes
Our sunset!
Today was a good day. We got some stuff done around the boat and then went over to Chat N Chills. There was only one guy working the bar and he was definitely a Bahamian...there wasn't anything that was going to make him move fast....especially whatever drug he was on at the time. Even though he was extremely slow, he was good at what he did (good drugs). I must have had at least two groups of people cut in front of me....you know, the woman sitting at the bar who knows everyone and someone sneaks her a $20 and asks her to get her 2 Kaliks....or the group of 6 who have money and as soon as they walk into anywhere they get served.....well....after all these people cut in front of me and the guy in front of me, another guy comes in, squeezes in beside the guy in front of me and starts staring down the bartender "like I'm next"....then he pulls out his $20's and starts counting them in front of him...like he's a big spender.....and the bartender finally gets around to waiting on the guy in front of me. I could tell the guy next to him was getting ready to make his move and I yelled to the bartender..."I'll take 2 Kaliks, no make that 3, one for the road" the whole time looking at this guy....he just turns around and looks at me like "what are you doing, can't you see that I was next?" I just looked at him and said "Sorry I had to stand my ground with you like that, but you happened to be the next one in line that was cutting in front of me! He just looked at me and smiled....the bartender looked at me and smiled and said "I gave you a Kalik Gold" I guess that's a good thing. I said "thank you" and left....never to return that day....
It wasn't real crowded at the picnic tables where we sat with Tim and Michelle. They clued us in on what the place was about and that all of the cruisers weren't here yet due to all of the south winds. So we had a couple of beers and returned to our respective boats.
Then, out of absolutely nowhere, while minding our own business and completing our final Happy Hour beer, the wind started picking up. A lot. Then more. By the time Bob got outside and looked at the anemometer, it was blowing 30 knots. Then 10 seconds later it hit 40 knots. Bob started the engines and turned on the chartplotter. He saw our friends dragging and called them on the radio. They didn't answer so we could only assume they were trying to pull up there anchor. We rushed to put on our lifejackets and trying to determine if anyone else was dragging. Then 50 knots. This all happened within 90 seconds. Then 60 knots (try driving down I-95 with your whole body standing on the roof of your car - it's a lot of wind)! At the next anchoring hole, someone said on the VHF radio that they clocked 75 knots. DERECHO! We saw the same thing back in July 2012, with Bill and Mo, where it hit 90 knots. We were more ready this time.
Then 90 seconds after that many people were on the radio screaming that boats were dragging their anchors and ready to collide with other boats. Two boats lost their dinghies, 2 others slammed into each other, one other dinghy got turned over, and one dinghy had to be cut loose as it kept slamming into their boat. Within 40 minutes the winds were back to 30 knots or so. Bob kept anchor watch for another hour and then came to bed.
Another beautiful day in the Bahamas!!
