We are still in Big Majors....this boat goes by and I'm impressed
because normally the Bahamians don't have covers on the front of
their boats for protection....
I then realize it's a tender to one of the big boats further out!
I don't think this is a Bahamian home
It looks like they are trying to put in a boat ramp?
Another non-resident home
They even have wind gennies!!
We tried to make it to Cambridge but the water was still too rough
so we ended up pretty much where we were only on the other side
for more protection....Fowl Cay
Between the rocks and the sand bars we are moving very slowly....
the chart shows two different ways to get to the other side....
This is where we are supposed to be going but it is very narrow....
we have about 40' between the sand bar and the rocks so we are
traveling very slowly....
Oopsie....due to the winds and current changes the sand bar drifted
further out....we didn't realize it at the time....we were in 26' of water and
the next thing we know we immediately come to a stop....
It was kind of a tough situation for about a half hour....the winds kept
trying to push us further into the sand in the wrong direction and we couldn't
power up to hard due to the rocks....yikes!
We just kept putting it in reverse and trying to turn ourselves out of it...we
could see we were right on the verge of deep water....we did finally make it
out and went on our merry way following the other chart direction!
The sound is actually on the other side of these rocks...where
we are headed now....
Our new anchorage. The back side of Big Majors!
The weather here has been a little crazy with all the winds. But it sounds like some of you are having some crazy wind problems also. Bob read on CNN that one of the cruise ships leaving out of New Jersey had to turn around near the Carolina area due to high winds (100+) and all the guests were asked to go to their rooms and stay there. Hmmmm....sounds like us the last couple of days!!
Not sure what we are going to do for the next couple of days. We were thinking of trying Cambridge again tomorrow but it doesn't like things are going to calm down for a while. The winds are getting ready to change again so we will probably move back over to the front of Big Majors.
We will be staying in Staniel Cay/Big Majors area for a couple of days, then probably go back to Black Point to do some laundry and do some walking around there.
Hoping to visit with piggies tomorrow, get some water, take the garbage to the dump, and dinghy around the Cays if it's not too rough!
