Coming into Highbourne
Yellow building is the only office in town!
The sign says "Beware of Sharks!"
Not many boaters here yet!
Going up to the office/gift/grocery store
This is the road that takes you to "your beach home for the week
or however long...."
Going out to the beach
Beach
Other side
Bar...no one there to serve us though! Darn!
Yikes!
For as cute as they are...they sure do make a lot of noise!
Seaplane flew in with about 8 people on board....they went to the
store and bought a few things, then left....
Our sunsetting
Just beautiful! Bob I mean :-)
Now that's beautiful!!!
Highbourne Cay is home to the northernmost marina
in the Exumas, Highbourne Cay Marina. It
has undergone many recent changes and upgrades and is a first-class
resort. “Xuma,” is a newly opened
restaurant, which overlooks some of Exumas most stunning turquoise waters. There are six rental cottages and two
Brazilian wood houses that were recently built on the resort.
Today
we moved down to Highbourne Cay. It’s kind
of a “ritzy; including attitude” kind of place J We did fill all our diesel cans and 1 water
jug. While Bob was doing that I went to the local market, which happened to be
a real building and real supplies inside.
Example: cranberry juice $16, 12
pack of buns $6.50, Oreo’s 1$12, a bathing suit cover-up $170. blah, blah,
blah! So I purchased 12 stamps and one
bag of buns and got out of that place.
You saw what the garbage was! Yikes! Oh, and by the way, we have a 5.3
gallon water jug; they charged us for 7 gallons….they have math issues here
also!
My
next hurdle there was trying to get some internet and phone service. For two days we’ve been able to see the tower
and couldn’t for the life of us figure out why we couldn’t get internet. We didn’t have any minutes on the phone so I
had to go and buy some of them. You see
tomorrow is Jenny’s birthday and I want to make sure we can talk to her. So I bought a phone card and then tried to
purchase an internet card. That didn’t go so well! You see, the tower here is private and in
order to get a 24-hour card for $15 you had to get one of their slips
here. For the price of a slip they
should be giving you the internet for free!
After
taking care of “stuff that has to be done” we came back to Storymaker and
jumped in the water. We headed to the
biggest coral reef behind our boat and had some good lookin’ fish, fans, and a
ray, to get pictures of with our Go Pro.
Bob was in charge of that….he/we still need to do some work on handling
it under water.
Tomorrow
we are headed to Normans. Don’t want to
be too far away from that cell tower sitting on Highbourne! After all, it is
Jenny’s birthday tomorrow and I want to be able to call her and sing Happy
Birthday to her!
